History and legends
Legends surrounding opals are fascinating and numerous.
The Aborigines tell that the stones creator was brought to earth by a rainbow to bring the message of peace to humanity. When the rainbow finally touched ground the stone took life and started to emit all the colours of a rainbow.

The Indians, on the other hand, say that the Hindu divinities Braham, Shiva and Vishnu fell in love with the same beautiful woman who they courted for a long time. One day, during a fight, being the jealous lovers that they were, they transformed the object of their desire into a cloud. Then, each one of them, unbeknown to the others, gave her a colour so that they could distinguish her from the other clouds.

The cloud, however, painted blue, red, and yellow was swept away by the wind. It was then that the three contenders, so as not to lose their love forever, decided to transform the cloud into a gem, giving it the power to instil hope and courage.
According to Arab folklore, however, the opals fell from heaven with flashes of light.

All societies which have used opals have given it magical powers regarding sight, both internal and external: from the possibility to see clearly your own feelings, hidden emotions and desires to that of seeing into the future. In Medieval times they thought that people who wore opals became invisible and that opals were essential for good vision. The opal had its moment of maximum prestige during the reign of Queen Victoria of England who made it a true icon of her jewellery.

Today opals are universally recognised and appreciated for their unique combination of colours. The proverbial luck of those who wear it increased over the many millenniums since their discovery, reaches you through our jewellery.
